Kilgore Cultural District
A cultural district is a designated area within a community that spotlights art, culture and entertainment. It is an area where residents and tourists can experience the unique character of a city. Kilgore’s Cultural District combines the Historic Downtown area with Kilgore College to provide an area full of:

Vision
Our vision is for Kilgore to be the premier destination for cultural, historical and artistic festivals and events and to encourage the creation, appreciation, and understanding of the arts. We seek to nurture a vibrant arts community, foster artistic excellence, and bring people together for powerful-shared experiences that inspire a creative exchange of ideas.
Mission
The mission of Kilgore Cultural District is to preserve, celebrate and promote the historical, cultural and artistic assets of Kilgore that make it a unique place to work, live and visit.
This fascinating museum houses the authentic re-creation of oil discovery and production in the early 1930s from the largest oil field inside U.S. boundaries. Here, visitors see the people, their towns, their tools, and their pastimes. These are all colorfully depicted in dioramas, movies, sound presentations and actual antiques donated by East Texas citizens.

Texas Museum of Broadcasting & Communications
The Texas Museum of Broadcasting and Communications is an interactive museum preserving America's broadcast history from its earliest days through the present, with vintage television and radio broadcast facilities. The museum opens by appointment or Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Kilgore’s first public library opened in 1933 under the direction of two local women’s clubs. With funding from the Federal Public Works Administration, support from the city, and labor from the Works Progress Administration, this structure was completed in 1939. Designed in a style reminiscent of cottages in the French province of Normandy, it stands as a visible reminder of Kilgore’s depression-era progressivism and continues to serve local citizens.

Go high stepping through time with the world famous Kilgore College Rangerettes at the Rangerette Showcase Museum. Located at Broadway and Ross streets on the Kilgore College campus, the museum pays historical tribute through films, scrapbooks, costumes, and photographs.

Other Events
Best known for its oil history, Kilgore is rich in arts and cultural events, with 18 taking place throughout the year and that is just in the Cultural District. Some of the more well-known Kilgore events are the Texas Shakespeare Festival, East Texas Oilmen’s Chili Cook Off, and the Rangerette Revels, however there are so many more to experience.
