The accounting and billing division is the “cash register” for the water department. The three meter reader/technicians collect readings from an average of 5,349 accounts each month. The readings are then entered into the billing system, and bills are sent to each water customer.
Two billing cycles are used by the accounting and collection division. The first cycle is billed on the 5th of each month, with the charges being due by the 20th of the same month. The second cycle is billed on the 20th of each month, with the charges being due by the 5th of the following month.
In addition to reading meters, the meter technicians install new residential meters and replace dead and malfunctioning meters. They also have the capability to test meters up to 1" in size. Larger meters are sent to a testing facility capable of testing those meters.
