KPD Makes Arrest in School Violence Threat Case

David Nelson was charged with Terroristic Threat Felony 3 and arraigned on October 27, 2018 by Judge Glen Phillips. A bond was set at $500,000. David Nelson has since been transferred to the Gregg County Jail. Nelson could face an additional 5 counts of Terroristic Threat.

This program is a unique ministerial opportunity. CAPA member and their organizations will be called upon to pray for the police department members, to be intentional in the building of relationships with law enforcement and other governmental officials, be available on a voluntary basis and ride with officers on patrol to view and evaluate community issues and be available for crisis interaction involving our community members with follow-up ministerial services.

KPD Investigates Burglary at Gun Shop

The front door to the business was torn from the building and a number of rifles and pistols had been stolen. Initial investigation revealed a stolen Maroon GMC single cab pickup had been used to pull off the door.

I-20 Fatal Traffic Crash

Initial investigation revealed traffic was stopped on the roadway due to another crash when a 1997 Chevrolet Pickup crashed into the rear of a stopped vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Pickup.

Train Fatality

July 2, 2018

Union Pacific train personnel reported the train was traveling east when they observed a person walking on the tracks. The person was facing away from the train also traveling east. The train conductor sounded the horn four to five times in an attempt to warn the person to leave the tracks. The person never acknowledges the horn in any way.

Initial investigation revealed a 2016 Ford Van failed to yield the right of way due to a stop sign and entered the intersection. A 2005 Nissan traveling south struck the Ford Van. The Ford Van was driven by Donald Jacobs, 49 years of age, of Las Vegas, NV.
