The Kilgore Fire Department will be hosting their entrance exam for the entry level firefighter. The test will be for both part-time and full-time positions. The Kilgore Fire Department is a dynamic organization that believes in a Community Service approach to providing emergency services to the citizens we serve. The KFD is a progressive-minded organization that uses modern techniques and concepts to maximize our firefighting capabilities such as CAFS Foam and Transitional Fire Attacks. Firefighters working in the KFD realize the importance that physical fitness plays in supporting a safe fireground, therefore all firefighters participate in a physical training program designed to improve the individual's fitness level. KFD provides opportunities for training and development of your career in the areas of:

  • Firefighting

  • EMS through advanced protocols

  • Hazmat response

  • Ropes Rescue

  • Confined Space Rescue

  • Vehicle Extrication

  • Swiftwater Rescue

The exam will be held on May 15th from 0930 to 1300 at the Ronnie Moore Training Building behind the Kilgore Police Station at 909 N. Kilgore Street. Part-time firefighters are paid $10/hour. Full-time firefighters receive a comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave as well as retirement with a two to one match, medical/dental/life insurance, LTD Insurance, cafeteria plan and longevity pay. Beginning salary is $37,138/year.

We administer a written exam once a year. The next test is scheduled for

May 15, 2017, 0930-1300 at the Ronnie Moore Training Center.


Check our Facebook page or call the administrative office if you have any questions regarding the time, date, and location. The test questions are taken from the latest ESSENTIALS textbook.


Next, the timed Agility Test is given.


The Fire Marshal begins the background check and peer interviews are scheduled.


At this point, if everything looks good the candidate will have a medical screening and finally the interview with the Fire Chief.


If there are no full-time positions available the candidate will have the opportunity to work part-time until a full-time position opens up.
